Clean-Eating Real Food Snacks | Whole Intentions

You’ve decided that you want to eat clean. You want to eat real food that’s as God made it – without any weird ingredients. But then you get hungry, and you realize you have NOTHING to snack on. I put together a list of easy real food snacks for those times when you need a snack and you are trying not to eat potato chips and candy bars. 🙂

  1. Cheese Sticks – super easy and full of protein. These have no weird ingredients – usually they’re just cheese.
  2. Fruit – My girls love fruit and peanut butter. We buy the Jif Natural peanut butter. It is made from healthy palm oil instead of the very unhealthy hydrogenated oils.
  3. Popcorn – This is super easy to make with a good air popper. Most corn in the grocery store is genetically modified, but there isn’t a genetically modified popcorn (yet). So, just regular popcorn kernels will work. Top with melted coconut oil or butter and salt. We usually use about two Tbsp. of fat per batch of air popped popcorn.
  4. Trail Mix – This is also super easy to make. Pick some nuts that you really like and mix with some dried fruit. If you would like to use almonds, buy organic because non-organic almonds are often sprayed with PPO. PPO is a chemical used in the production of antifreeze and hydraulic fluid! The good news is that many grocery stores now carry organic almonds. If you desire chocolate in your mix try Enjoy Life Semi-Sweet Chocolate Mini Chips. They have good ingredients and many grocery stores now carry these in the “gluten-free” section.
  5. Paleo Tortillas – These can be topped with a little jelly or fruit. (They are also really good with taco meat!) These tortillas have a good amount of protein from the eggs. My family would eat them right from the pan with nothing on them!
  6. Sugar Free Strawberry Smoothie – This recipe is made with homemade yogurt, but if you are short on time try using plain organic yogurt.
  7. Freezer Biscuits – These can be made ahead of time. Then freeze the biscuits and pull out of the freezer and bake for 13-15 minutes.
  8. Hard Boiled Eggs – super easy and full of protein. Place the eggs in a pot and bring to a boil. Turn down to a simmer and cook for 15-20 minutes. Place eggs in cold water. Crack and eat them right away or store them in the fridge for later. Try making a healthier version of Deviled Eggs too!

All of these snacks are made from nourishing, whole ingredients. They are all low in sugar (as long as there aren’t too many chocolate chips in the trail mix). 🙂 Many have protein which helps to keep hunger cravings at bay.

      Our family definitely does not eat clean, but I am starting to try to figure some of this out. Favorite snacks for us are also edamame with a little salt sprinkled on, and either bananas or apples with peanut butter. And smoothies, smoothies, and more smoothies. 🙂
