Everyday Uses for Essential Oils - Tips and Tricks to Support Your Family's Health

Have you ever had one of those days when nothing goes right? Or maybe you’re trying to make supper, helping kids with homework and have a crying child on one hip all at the same time? Or how about all the kids are in bed, and they start coming out one at a time with excuses like, “I need to go potty, I didn’t get a snack, I’m scared or I forgot to tell you something”?

Well, you are not alone! Today I would like to share with you some everyday uses for essential oil tricks to support you and your little ones.

First up is Lavender, this is a widely known oil for its relaxing properties. One of my favorite ways to use it is to mix it with epsom salt and put it in the bath for the kids before bed. I also like to diffuse it into the air in their bedrooms while they’re going to sleep.

Sometimes on those days I think it will be especially hard for them to calm down and rest, I’ll add Cedarwood EO (which creates a relaxing, calming, and comforting atmosphere) as well. Lavender is also good for those unexpected falls off a bike and bug bites that start happening this time of year. This is an important oil in our house, we keep one in the kitchen and one upstairs by our bedrooms.

Now for the moms and dads out there, Young Living has an essential oil blend called Stress Away. Yes, it has that name for a reason. 🙂 This blend contains copaiba, lime, cedarwood, vanilla, ocotea and lavender. I know some people who have a bottle of this on their desk at work. I keep a roll-on bottle in my purse for those ‘feel like I am going to pull my hair out’ moments.

For after school, Peppermint is a great oil to diffuse while doing homework as it may enliven the brain and aid in concentration. It’s also a great pick-me-up oil for those mid-afternoon slumps. Sometimes I like to put a drop (you don’t need much of this one, even a drop can be too much) in water to drink, or a drop on the back of my neck.

Lemon and Rosemary essential oils are also known for increasing memory function and are great for diffusing for school work. I also like to put a drop of lemon on my kids hands and have them rub them together and inhale a few deep breaths of it before heading to school.

I cannot close this article without talking about one of my personal favorites! It’s the essential oil blend named Thieves. This blend supports healthy immune function. Since my kids go to a public school, we use a lot of this one during the school year. I like to diffuse it and put it on my kids feet EVERY night. My husband and I use this oil internally whenever we feel like we may be catching a bug of any sort. I like it under my tongue or in a tea. But remember this is a HOT oil as it contains cinnamon bark oil, so dilute when necessary.
