Do you love the crunch of salty crackers? When you became gluten-free or started a candida diet, did you think they’d become a memory?
When I was younger I loved the cheese and crackers that came in little plastic containers. A little square filled with processed cheese, four crackers, and a stubby red stick made me a happy camper.
In the early years of married life, and before Travis found out he was gluten-free, our favorite Saturday pastime was lazing around in bed all day eating Triscuits from the box and cuddling for hours. We had no place to go, nothing to do, and our kids hadn’t been invented yet. Even now one of us will point to a box of Triscuits in the grocery store aisle and we’ll both get goofy grins on our faces.
Ahh, the memories a little square of flour can evoke.
But now we’re middle-aged adults (gulp), with five kids, full-time jobs (yes, being an at-home-mom is a full-time job and I will stand by that statement until the day. I. die.), and no gluten-filled crackers to whisk us back in time.
So we make our own crunchy and delicious crackers, smile at each other while we nibble them in passing, and share them with the kids who have them gone in about 10.5 seconds and counting. But hey, at least they’ve learned to clean up their crumbs. Life is still good. 🙂
